NICE I DONT THINK IT SHOULD SAY OBAMA THO HES NOT DOIN ANYTHING GOOD LOL
The sad thing is that many younger people alive today have absolutely no idea who Nat Turner was.
I definitely have heard the name, which is familiar...but did not know who he was or what he did...I'm just reading his wikipedia profile...
The truth is that after Nat Turner's revolt there was an intense fear that another literate slave might somehow repeat what Nat Turner had done. Therefore discussion of the revolt was discouraged. Copies of Nat Turner's alleged Confessions were even destroyed by the state to prevent the story from spreading. This is a story the establishment had absolutely no incentive to tell.
D-E-E-P!
Interesting and it makes sense why society at the time would want it suppressed....but then again...like ppl have already commented here...not to many of us know who he is today either...also like Nat Turner Movie commented....and I agree...its really good that history has allowed Nat Turner to be painted as someone who was not only literate but also as I read on wikipedia...someone who knew the bible really well...I personally think this is important because even people who are really reluctant or cannot stand to acknowledge his actions as being justified or heroic...will have to accept the idea of his understanding of right and wrong, just and unjust....and not just someone engaged in senseless violence...which could possibly be the easiest way to marginalize him....for those who wish to do so....
Has anyone read the Confessions?
"The Confessions of Nat Turner" (the full document)

Yes, Nat Turner was known as a prophet in the community by both blacks and whites. At one point he even baptized a white man named Ethelred Brantely which was unheard of during those times. Nat Turner was steeped in scripture and it is likely he saw himself through the perspective of an old testament style avenger. Many people think of the bible as a book only about loving thy neighbor and turning the other cheek, but in its entirety there are some intensely violent, brutal chapters. Have you ever read the book of Ezekiel?
Read Ezekiel 9:6, Ezekiel 13:21 + 23, Ezekiel 24:21
I read the entire document. I'm glad i have the story in my head in his own words. I have to say that I'm blown away at the power of the narrative that he gave in a short time and the setup he provides before he recounts the events he was being charged for shows how smart he was, because I think that is a smart move to recount his own background like that if it is going down in history as a part of your reputation. What a great story man...really. These are the type of things I imagine seeing in movies and Nat Turner's description of his own story real feels deeply visual. He knew where he had been, where he currently was and where he was going...as if all planned out. I'm also going to add that the fact that the story leaves a really deep impression, even today, attests to nothing else but the narrator's power of mind.
I also read the passages in Ezekial that were brought to my attention and can see the links.
I heard that Quentin Tarantino is making a movie set in slavery times....but....THIS is the movie he should be making. In many ways its a NON FICTIONAL inglorious basterds type of story. It doesn't have to be fabricated at all...all the extremes he would need are already there and it beats any fictionalized story he's currently working on becuz it actually happened.
