In this discussion Rakem speaks about his experience growing up in North Texas as a regular guy before joining the military. In the military is when he began to experience both direct and institutional racism that woke him up to a lot of things. Upon returning back to Dallas he joined an organization called GMF or “Guerrilla Mainframe Family”which became one of the founding parties of the Huey P Newton Gun Club.
The HPNGC came together in 2012 as a coalition between Guerrilla Mainframe and the The Peoples New African Black Panther Party to protest the murder of Alfred Wright in Hemphill, Texas. Rakem speaks on the success of that organization to date as well as some of the goals to helping the community with food, clothing, and shelter initiatives as well as self knowledge and education classes. Rakem explains that the gun is used mainly as a propaganda tool for promoting the culture of resistance, but also there is a big focus on gun safety, and responsible gun use among the members and in the community.
